The main objective of this Forum is to 'ensure that the development of electronic commerce on the Internet is handled in a way which protects Jersey's position as a premier offshore finance centre'. The Forum also wanted to ensure that Jersey was well positioned to attract companies wishing to undertake electronic trading under the jurisdiction of the Island.
One of the initial tasks taken on board by the Forum was to review the ownership and control of the ".je" domain on the Internet. The Forum was concerned that existing arrangements need to be reviewed and that the Jersey Internet community might need a stronger voice in the allocation of names within the ".je" domain. The Forum elected a small committee tasked with reviewing arrangements and establishing options for ensuring Jersey had a real role in controlling its own Internet domain.
